The Rev. Frank J. Chacon was ordained a Deacon in September 2004 by Bishop Jerry A. Lamb and assigned to St. Luke’s, his home parish. He was raised in the Roman Catholic Church in Sacramento, and received into the Episcopal Church in 1995. He graduated from The School For Deacons in the class of 2004. His role as a Deacon is to act as a bridge between the community and the Church, identifying the needs outside the church doors and helping members to use their particular gifts in ministry to those in need. He assists the Rector in the Liturgy, pastoral care ministry, and supports various parish ministries such as the Men’s Fellowship and Outreach Committee. He is certified as a trainer in the Safeguarding God’s Children program.
Deacon Frank is a volunteer chaplain at California State Prison – Solano, in Vacaville, where he leads a Sunday evening service and a weekly bible study group. He is also an on-call chaplain at Woodland Memorial Hospital and conducts occasional bible study groups at Yolo County Juvenile Hall. For 27 years prior to becoming a Deacon he was a Correctional Officer for the California Youth Authority, serving as a counselor, hostage negotiator, trainer of staff, pre and post HIV counselor and GED examiner.
